Executive Chef Michael Kelly

Learning the importance of food and family at an early age through helping her grandmother cook at her grandparents’ restaurant in Johnstown, PA, Alissa has always felt right at home “In the Kitchen”. Since then, Alissa has worked in restaurants across the country indulging her love of good food, wine and friends.

A self taught cook, Alissa always found a way to keep cooking through her years of @ Broadcast School, and her time earning her BA in Political Science from the University of Southern California.

Alissa also worked as an actress appearing in several national commercials and prime time television shows. Her favorite pastime is shopping at the local Farmer’s Market and cooking for her friends.

After marrying Ned Bigelow, a Marketing Executive, they moved back to his hometown of Boston. There, she attended Boston University and worked towards earning her Masters in Broadcast Journalism, all the while continuing to pursue her love of cooking by spending her evenings preparing meals for her friends and family.

Upon graduating from BU, she took a job working as an editor and features producer at the New England Sports Network’s (NESN) nightly news shows SportsDesk.

Her creative nature and love of food led her to Rustic Kitchen, a local Boston restaurant, where owner, restaurateur and cooking show producer Jim Cafarelli was launching a unique live cooking show in a one-of-a-kind television broadcast kitchen studio. Bigelow and Cafarelli collaborated to create a unique and comfortable forum for people to dine in, learn and enjoy what is now Boston’s only live cooking show. With more than 250 live shows under their belts, the “In the Kitchen” team sought to expand their loyal fan base of housewives, husbands, young couples, kids, and foodies alike by creating a TV show with long-time friend, Deran Sarafian (Emmy nominated executive producer and director of HOUSE, M.D. featured on Fox television) “In the Kitchen” has become one of the hottest tickets in town.

As host of “In the Kitchen” with Alissa Bigelow, she demonstrates the many components of signature dishes and wine pairings during a live cooking show with an intimacy most people find while sitting around their kitchen counters.

Alissa’s passion for the personal side of food and wine encourages her audience, to talk about their favorite cooking stories, or their worst cooking failures while they dine on featured food items and wines she selects to match.

“It’s OK to make mistakes,” she jokes, “because like in life, that’s how you learn to cook.”

Living in a cozy Back Bay brownstone, Alissa balances her responsibilities as Mother, Wife, Cook and Show Host. When she isn’t at Rustic Kitchen cooking or hosting her show, she can be found eating at one of her favorite restaurants, shopping at Savenor’s Market, throwing an impromptu dinner party or hanging at the playground with her 3-year old daughter, Olivia.
