In their early development career, the Cafarelli's founded CAFCO Development Inc., a Boston-based concept design and construction management company specializing in restaurants, bars, and night clubs. After years of successfully overseeing the design and opening of several hundred restaurants nationwide,
Jim went on to become the exclusive developer of the famed House of Blues.
As President of House of Blues Development, he designed, built, and opened locations in Cambridge,
New Orleans, Los Angeles, Chicago, Myrtle Beach, Walt Disney World in Orlando, Disneyland in Anaheim, and the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
As a follow-up to this success, in 1998 he co-founded The Olive Group Corp. and opened 10 restaurants, including Olives in New York, Aspen, and Washington, D.C., as well as Kingfish Hall and Bonfire in Boston, and Tuscany at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut.
After years of partnerships, Jim & Kathy decided to branch out on their own and in 2001 opened their first Rustic Kitchen in Boston. The restaurant quickly became known for the beautiful design and seasonally inspired, locally sourced dishes. Their commitment to excellence earned Rustic Kitchen many awards including Boston Magazine's "Best New Restaurant" and Sante' Magazine's "Best New England Bistro."
Today, there are Rustic Kitchen restaurants in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania at Mohegan Sun Pocono and Valle Dorado at City Shops in Mexico City.
Jim, Kathy and their son Michael have also developed The Studio Kitchen, which is a unique culinary & entertainment destination. As co-executive producers, they oversee production of a weekly live and televised dinner show from inside The Studio Kitchen. The highly entertaining experience offers audience members the opportunity to dine on featured entrée items and enjoy wine pairings, while also learning how to prepare the meal directly from the chef herself. The show is now is a 4 -time Emmy Award-winning television show as well!
