Our Story

Kathy Cafarelli and her husband, Jim, have more than 30 years of experience in concept development and hospitality management. Their impressive client list includes House of Blues, The Walt Disney Company, Universal Studios, Chelsea Football Club, David Copperfield, Motown, Comcast, Greg Norman, and

Quincy Jones.

 

In their early development career, the Cafarelli's founded CAFCO Development Inc., a Boston-based concept design and construction management company specializing in restaurants, bars, and night clubs. After years of successfully overseeing the design and opening of several hundred restaurants nationwide,

Jim went on to become the exclusive developer of the famed House of Blues.

 

As President of House of Blues Development, he designed, built, and opened locations in Cambridge,

New Orleans, Los Angeles, Chicago, Myrtle Beach, Walt Disney World in Orlando, Disneyland in Anaheim, and the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

 

As a follow-up to this success, in 1998 he co-founded The Olive Group Corp. and opened 10 restaurants, including Olives in New York, Aspen, and Washington, D.C., as well as Kingfish Hall and Bonfire in Boston, and Tuscany at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut. 

 

After years of partnerships, Jim & Kathy decided to branch out on their own and in 2001 they opened the first Rustic Kitchen. The restaurant quickly became known for the beautiful design and seasonally inspired, locally sourced dishes. Their commitment to excellence has earned Rustic Kitchen many awards including Boston Magazines "Best New Restaurant" and Sante' Magazines National Award as "Best New England Bistro."

 

Today, there are four Rustic Kitchen restaurants worldwide: Hingham, Massachusetts at the Derby Street Shoppes, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania at Mohegan Sun Pocono, and in two in Mexico City at Valle Dorado, and in La Condesa.

Jim, Kathy and their son Michael have also developed The Studio Kitchen, which is a unique culinary & entertainment destination. As co-executive producers, they oversee production of a weekly live and televised dinner show from inside The Studio Kitchen, located alongside the sister restaurant concept, Bar Rustic. Both are located near Cape Cod, in Plymouth County at Kingston Collection. The highly entertaining experience offers audience members the opportunity to dine on featured entrée items and enjoy wine pairings, while also learning how to prepare the meal directly from the chef herself. The show is now is a 4 -time Emmy Award-winning television show as well!
